Kids Activities In Leeds This Summer
Kids Activities In Leeds This Summer

Trying to keep the children happy and entertained during the long summer stretch, while also trying not to break the bank, can seem an almost impossible task.

Fear not! Here’s a rundown of some cheap or free kids activities and events on during the summer months in Leeds:

Bring-Along-a-Baby Choir – £6 a session
Howard Assembly Room
2 & 9 July, 11.30am
This group is suitable for adults with babies and young children and is a great chance to enjoy all the fun of singing in a group, in a warm and friendly environment. No singing experience (or talent!) is necessary, just a desire to join in and have a go.

‘From Beavers to Weavers’ Exhibition – FREE
Leeds City Museum
6 July 2018 – 6 January 2019
This quirky exhibition will enthral small minds, as it celebrates “the beautiful things made by animals, from dawn birdsong to fireflies’ twinkling lanterns […] Discover how animals build their homes, make tools to catch food and even sing or give gifts to attract their mates.” Also, check out the programme of activities at the Museum for Sensory Room Days (for families with additional needs) and even Survival Workshops for children age 11+!

Little Big Sing – £6 children / £2 adults
Howard Assembly Room
11 July, 11.45am
Join this group for a “multi-sensory journey through the magical world of opera. Meet lots of interesting characters and learn some new songs, as well as singing some tots’ favourites. With live instrumental music, lights, projections and a whole heap of fun included.” Should be enough to tire the little ones out for a good afternoon nap!

The Tiger Who Came to Tea – Tea Party! – FREE
Waterstones Leeds, 93-97 Albion Street, Leeds, LS1 5AP
14 July, 3pm
Head to the Waterstones café for a free tea party with a special guest – The Tiger Who Came To Tea! Staff will be “reading the Tiger’s favourite story to keep him (and everyone else) happy!” Places are limited so reserve your seats by contacting 0113 2444588 or email [email protected].‪

‘Around the World in 6 Weeks’ Activities – FREE
Leeds City Museum
Various dates – July & August
As part of their family fun programme for the summer school holidays, you can get on board the “Museum Airways” trail. There will be free making-activities on various days throughout July and August. Visit a different continent each week and “be inspired by things you can find in the museum, from the Australian Cassowary Bird to the Japanese Pagoda.”

Leeds Treasure Trail – £6.99 for a group
Leeds City Centre
All year round
If you’re planning on entertaining a group of kids, or the whole family, download a treasure-trail map for £6.99 and go on a hunt around the city. Trails can be done in your own time and at your own pace. The route is approximately 1.2 miles long and takes 1.5 hours to complete. All correct answers are entered into the monthly £100 prize draw and a mobile text service is even available if you get stuck, ensuring that no mystery goes unsolved! The suggested age group for the walk is 6+. There is a similar Leeds Owl Trail that kids can enjoy too.
