30th Nov — 7th Dec
Leeds Town Hall
The Headrow, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3AD
Based on the 2005 film, Joyeux Noel, Silent Night tells the story of the 1914 Christmas Eve truce when peace spontaneously broke out between French, German and Scottish troops in the trenches during the First World War. This concert staging is the first time Kevin Puts’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opera will have been performed in the UK. Alongside the full Orchestra of Opera North, it will feature 100 male voices including the men from the Chorus of Opera North, students from the Royal Northern College of Music, young people from the Opera North Youth Chorus and members of the community.
Conducted by Nicholas Kok and directed by Tim Albery, Silent Night will be staged at Leeds Town Hall as part of a series of Armistice 100 events in the city marking the centenary of the end of the First World War.
